Where In The World is a series of posts that will showcase an memory from somewhere in the world
In 2018, I wrapped up a whirlwind 16-day journey of traveling, working, and adventuring with a 24-hour layover in Iceland. Calling it a “pit stop” feels almost unfair—there wasn’t enough time to see everything, but just enough to leave a lasting impression.
In one winter day, I managed to enjoy a steaming bowl of traditional Icelandic lamb stew (worth the trip alone), stroll through Reykjavík’s charming streets, take a Northern Lights tour (unfortunately the lights didn’t join us), and ended with a blissful soak in the world-famous Blue Lagoon.
The photo below is my favorite from that day—captured at the edge of the Blue Lagoon. I love its natural texture and soft, muted tones: frosty whites, pale mineral blues, and cool grays. These colors feel especially timeless during the holiday season, offering a fresh alternative to the traditional reds and greens often used in seasonal branding.
For me, travel isn’t just about memories—it’s a well of creative inspiration. This snapshot could inspire a winter color palette for a brand identity, a holiday marketing design, or even a surface pattern collection that captures Iceland’s serene beauty.
If you’re looking for holiday design inspiration this year, consider exploring cool, understated color palettes that draw from nature. Whether for home décor, social media content, or product packaging, these hues bring an elegant, calming touch to the festive season.
